What is even better than $1 patterns? $0.50 books! My sister dragged me to the local library book sale, and I found a lot of awesomely fun stuff: A book about the process of creating an animated film, and a History of the Donner Party. Encyclopedia of Games, I Am A Strange Loop, and Encyclopedia … More Awesome Library Book Sale!
The German website has posted a digital flip-through catalog of their new Fall/Winter line! The Simplicity website is less helpful, mixing in the new patterns with the old, but at least you can order them, if you feel so inclined. Anyway, although some of these patterns look awfully familiar: This was in the October 2011 … More Newsflash: New Fall/Winter Burda Envelop Patterns Announced!
Ok, these partial previews on the German website are killing me. So glad the Russians are going their own way and posting full previews with garment, model, and line drawing pictures. Overall I have to say the September issue is pretty good. No crazy dirndls (well, ok, maybe one), no fuzzy vests, lots of good basics, and … More Newsflash: September Burda Preview Announced!
Since I haven’t been posting as much in the past few months some of this is a backlog, and some of it is souvenir fabric shopping from nationals. The patterns were won in a hard-fought Ebay battle. There may or may not have been blood. From Fashion Fabrics Club: Blue wool jersey (for a top) and red … More Fabric and Patterns, Oh My!
It has been a long trip to nationals this year, but finally I am back home. Sorta. I mean, I am home, but I am still in that not-quite-adjusted-to-my-own-time-zone phase, and unpacking has been pointedly ignored up to this point. And, as the skaters out there know, once you enter the main competition season your … More Home, Home Again
My time is tight right now, between skating, finishing costumes, and eating and sleeping, but I wanted to mention that there are a LOT of new pattern releases in the past few days. Firstly, the September Burda early preview can be seen on the German and Russian websites. I have to say, so far, I … More New Patterns Abound! September Burda Early Preview, Burda Plus Fall/Winter, and New Fall Simplicity Patterns
Though I am crazy busy and haven’t really had time to keep up on my blog reading, I did want to post the new Vogue Patterns for fall. Overall this is a pretty great collection. At least, it feels very Vogue, if that makes sense. Very stylized. Perhaps not the most wearable patterns for everyone, but … More Newsflash: Fall Vogue Patterns Announced!
Ok, so I went to the Joann’s in the few days before nationals to get some serger thread. I also got: Navy cotton twill, denim, and blue/gold brocade. The twill was bought with the idea of being used right away, but the others were red tag purchases that couldn’t be passed up. ($3 brocade? Yes … More Unexpected Pre-Nationals Fabric Acquisitions
Ok, with any luck these will be my last practice outfits that I make this year. Seriously, I have enough. But I do like the way these turned out: My “Girl on Fire” Dress. It is made of a textured velvet, but it catches the light and seems to glow. Basic back. Brush stroke dress. … More Even More Practice Outfits
You guys. Seriously, you guys. WHY?!?!?!?! My beloved and trusty Brother CS6000i has bit the dust. My first sewing machine has seen me through learning to sew, making countless skating costumes, trousers, tops, and several heavy-duty coats. I have had it for over four years and (ab)used it quite a bit in that time. For … More R.I.P. CS6000i
