Adventures in Bra Sewing: Minty Make Bra DL02

This is my fifth Make Bra DL02, and it might be my favorite so far. I’ve tweaked the pattern so at this point it fits great, the colors are some of my favorites, and I got to have a lot of fun using the pattern to show off lovely lace. This is a quick break from all of the pattern review catch-ups to show a project that I’ve been thinking about since March, and I’m so happy I finally was able to make it!

The Make Bra DL02 is my current favorite TNT pattern. I’ve been wanting to play with using this as a base for other design ideas, but before that I really wanted to showcase the unique and very pretty seamlines on this pattern.

Although the fabric and colors look like the line art, I was actually inspired by my Aphrodite bralette that I made earlier this year. I really loved the mix of materials and the colors of the minty powernet with the black lace, but sadly that bra ended up being slightly tight. So I wanted to make another version that I new would fit and that I would be able to wear. Enter the DL02. Using the stretch materials to cover the foam cups was definitely going to work, so I was happy to dive back into using these materials for a new project. I also really wanted to showcase the lace, so I made some bottoms to go with the bra.

Isn’t she pretty? It was so enjoyable to be able to focus on design and working with materials rather than just fitting for this project. I really wanted to give the impression of continuous lace draping over the cup and showcasing the lovely motif while also highlighting the unique seamlines on this patten, and I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. I think the finished product looks like I draped the lace over the bra and stitched it down, but every piece was actually cut and sewn together with the cup cover or the band, and the scallops lined up exactly how I wanted in the center band. Here are way too many close-ups because look at this pattern matching y’all!

I also really love the way that using the lace only on the middle and outer cup pieces drapes through the shoulder straps and around the cups.

I’m not typically a bow person, but I added one here – I think the rhinestone detail is an unexpected favorite feature for me.

I’m so happy with how this turned out! The fit, the colors, the contrast, the art-deco-stained-glass-ish lace – it’s exactly what I wanted and is definitely one of my favorite projects for this year so far.
