Geeky seamstress with too many ideas and not enough time. Costumes, cosplay, reading, cooking, crafting.
Or, well, I got one! On PatternReview. I did notice some people had them, but I never really knew how they were given out. Guess they just sort of pop up one day according to lots of math-stuffs. Don’t know if it is good manners to speak of such things, but I was really excited … More I am a Star!
In the days before my sister left for Europe we made an excursion to Forever 21, because she couldn’t bear the thought of living with shoe remorse for a year. Confession time: this was my first experience in a Forever 21. That’s right, I had never been in one of these stores before. Well, I … More Foray to Forever 21
Alrighty, after a good many hours of sleep I finally feel refreshed enough to actually do a real post of the finished coat. This coat was quite an adventure. I had been planning it since back in February, with fabric selections and pattern selections occurring around May, and the finished project happening mid-September, the last … More Pattern Review: Vogue 8626
Well, it is done. The winter coat for my sister’s Europe adventure that I have been planning since February is finished. Obviously, making a coat is a long and involved process. Even more difficult when the person you are making it for can only be fitted once or twice a week. And, of course, it … More Post-Sewing Exhaustion
I am super excited about the October Burda Style, and did my usual preview analysis. I was lamenting the fact that the pair of pants I was dying to make were not part of the preview on the non-German sites (which show the line drawings). Well, happy day, the previews have been updated to include the … More October Burda Style Preview Update
A few weeks ago the diamond planet (Spectra!) was found. Today, a news blurb about a Tatooine-like planet orbiting binary stars. Now we need to find Hoth and the Moon of Endor…
Alright, so I was supposed to be sewing up the coat for my sister. Of course, I really really wanted to make a dress for me for a party instead. So I did. It ended up… a little crazy though. But I like it. I just don’t know if I can wear it and not look ridiculous. … More Pattern Review: BS 05-2011-104
Sadly, at the previous Big4 pattern sales I was unable to acquire the latest fall patterns (6 Joann stores in the area and NONE of them have the new patterns for at least 3-4 weeks after they are announced), so I am hoping to polish off my wish lists with this round of sales. In … More JoAnn Pattern Sales – Vogue/McCall’s and Butterick
Ok, so I wasn’t planning on more skating updates, but there have been some interesting recent developments. Somehow with skating “interesting” often develops into “expensive” but it has been a while since I have updated equipment, so I suppose that was to be expected? In any case, you can read about Part I, Part II, Part III, … More Fancy Italian Footwear, Part VI (Or The Importance of a Properly Adjusted Pivot Pin)
Ah, yes. I am still aglow over the October preview and super excited over the pattern sales. And, luckily, my fearful anticipation of the swarming masses of home seamstresses duking it out of the Burda drawers was for naught. Indeed, the few people who were there for patterns were all looking at Simplicity. And, unlike all of … More A Very Burda Weekend
