The latest collection from Kwik Sew is here. I know it is for fall and winter, but even still there are a surprising number of coats and jackets in this collection. Minimal athletic wear and some kids stuff round out the collection. Not a whole lot to get excited about, though there are a lot of great options for people who have been hesitant to try sewing jackets in the past. Let’s take a look:
KS4188 – This ruched cross over top is probably one of the highlights of the collection for me – the proportions are really nice.
KS4190 – Basic dolman sleeve knit top. Looks simple to sew and cozy to wear.
KS4189 – Interesting use of the stripe on this asymmetrical hem.
KS4187 – Interesting idea to use laters as color blocking, but I think the overall effect looks a bit bulky.
KS4195 – There have been a lot of these oversized tunic tops lately. The elastic waist pants aren’t anything special, unless you happen to be looking for an elastic waist pant pattern.
KS4199 – Exciting to see Kwik Sew expanding into the larger size range. All of these pieces would be very functional in a versatile wardrobe.
KS4191 – Interesting lapel shape on this jacket. Really liking the contrast binding on the black and white version.
KS4192 – Another waterfall front jacket/cardigan. Continues to be a popular trend.
KS4196 – The oversized lapel seems to be a strong trend with Kwik Sew this year. This jacket looks very simple to sew – no front closures and no back seaming. Could be a good pattern for someone who has never sewn a coat before, though the details are probably a bit simple for more advanced sewists.
KS4198 – Novel collar on this coat.
KS4197 – Love the shaping on this jacket/coat pattern, but I’m a bit sad that the coat has no closures.
KS4193 – Another poncho pattern. I get enough of these with my Burda subscription.
KS0228 – Ellie Mae PJ pattern. Love the details on the neckline; looks very RTW.
KS4194 – The hoodie looks great; not as impressed by the pants here.
KS4200 – Not sure how the hood would be to sleep on, but the rest of this pattern looks awesome.
KS4201 – I can accept these pants as PJs or scrubs, but did they make drawstring pants in denim? No, no, no. The sweater looks like something I’ve seen a lot of guys wear, so that’s useful at least.
The are a few other cutesy craft patterns and a couple of kids patterns, but otherwise that’s about it. On the whole there isn’t anything here I’m dying to add to the collection. I feel like I’ve got similar jacket patterns with either more shaping or better closures and including a lining pattern. I may grab that shirt pattern (especially now that Jo-Ann seems to be running more Kwik Sew sales), but otherwise there are a lot of things here that I’d leave as a pass. Thoughts? See anything you need for fall? Feel free to discuss in the comments!
Thanks for the round up! I agree, there is nothing jumping out at me either. But Kwik Sew aren’t exactly known for their high fashion designs.
