So a few weekends ago a friend of mine was having a Star Wars themed surprise birthday party. This happened to be the friend I sat next to at the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So when I found out her
boyfriend fiancé was planning her birthday engagement party and asking everyone to come dressed appropriately, I knew I wanted to do something a bit more elaborate than a t-shirt. Of course, I didn’t have enough time to create a full Jedi costume, but I thought I could pull off Rey’s look fairly easily using a lot of wardrobe items I had on hand.
I found some amazing crinkled rayon gauze at a quasi-local Hancock’s Fabrics. It has the most delicious drape. So I bought a lot of it, and finished off the edges to replicate Rey’s fabric wrapped look. Everything else was thrown together from items in my wardrobe: a tank top, leggings, boots, a belt, a bag, and the ultimate fashion accessory, a lightsaber.
Best thing about this is that my friend was super excited to have a Rey at her party.
Not bad for 30 minutes, no?

Wonderful, thanks for sharing 🙂 I can’t wait to make a Rey costume for our daughter. (if you are interested, you can see the other Star Wars costumes we have made on our blog)
Not bad at all! Very good!
Nicely done! You planning to keep the fabric for this outfit or sew up something else with it?
Not sure yet – I’ll probably keep it like this for a while, but it would be super easy to turn it into something else since it is essentially 6 continuous yards of fabric.

A remarkable similarity, especially on such a short notice! Love this costume!
Awesome costume, and some impressive bruises! Hoping you are OK.
Yeah, I sort of took up Lightsaber fencing – very fun, but it’s taken me a while to learn to balance defensive and offensive moves… Hence the gnarly looking arms.
For 30 minutes…that is terrific! Great job!
