September has been a crazy month and it’s hard to believe it’s almost done! Surprisingly, I got a fair bit of sewing done this month and I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my bra sewing adventures.

Sewing Progress

I have been making a lot of progress in my bra sewing and fitting goals, especially with regards to fitting underwires and pattern adjustments.

I’ve been working on updating all of my patterns to adjust for the issues I’ve noticed while wearing my finished projects from this month. After initially wearing my Willowdale and Bravo Bra, I felt like the wires were too big, but on my second wear I tightened the back band to the tightest hook setting and it actually fit better! The bras were tight, but not entirely uncomfortable (I wore them for full work days without issue). I’m planning to take in the back bands of both patterns to accommodate for this, but I still want to test out some additional wires before moving on to my self-draft and next patterns.

I also made an adjustment to my self-drafted underwear pattern this month and widened the back of the gusset (so it now flares out quite a bit on the back of the gusset piece) and I love the change! I feel like I’ve finally found a perfect fit with that pattern, so now I’m ready to go crazy trying different variations and making a whole new drawer of underwear that fits!

Sewing Delays

It’s funny to say that I’ve had delays this month considering how much I have been sewing, but it’s also starting to get busy at work and busy with other obligations. I’m hopeful that I can keep up with the sewing projects through winter, but I’m probably going to have to slow my roll a bit over the next few months.

Finished Projects

I made four projects this month! I finished the BJ’s Bralette, Bravo Bra #2, Cashmerette Willowdale, and made a matching underwear set for the bralette. Sewing-wise these aren’t the most complex projects, but I put a lot of time into the pattern fitting process, so I’m really happy with how they turned out and everything I learned from making these projects.

WIPs & Upcoming Plans

I’m currently working on my second version of the Willowdale with some pattern adjustments after having worn the first version for a while. After that I’m hoping to move on to self-drafting a bra pattern. I figure that will take a while, but I’d also like to go back to the Sahaara pattern and start from scratch with regards to choosing a size. I’m also a complete convert in terms of making self-drafted underwear. I’ve tweaked the gusset shape of my underwear pattern and I don’t think I can go back to store bought undergarments, ever. So, I guess part of my plans might also be churning out a bunch of underwear in between the pattern drafting and fit testing!
