Monthly Sewing Review – 2025 January Wrap Up

This month has been a lot, so I’m just going to do a quick recap on sewing progress and updates for future reference.

Sewing Progress

I started working on a few projects this month but didn’t quite finish yet because of travel and starting the Bee on a Wire class in the hive. I did manage to finish the underwear portion of a bra set I’m mostly done working on:

I also started working on patterns for the Bee on a Wire class. I’m really happy I signed up – it’s a different method that I’ve used in the past and the help with fitting has been amazing. I’ll do a full review of the experience after it’s over, but for now I’m testing a few of the patterns that were selected for this class. The pattern options were the Make Bra DL03 (too small for me), the Pin-up Girls Amethyst/Ruby or Freja, the AFI Elegance, or the La Bella Coppia Josey. Because I’m me I’m revisiting a lot of these patterns and starting over to see how they work out following the steps in the class and compare to the versions I had made previously using different techniques. So far I’m very hopeful about the final fit!

I’ve been doing a lot of work to get caught up on this class, but I’ll post more about it next month after I’ve gotten a bit farther along in the process.

Sewing Delays

I was traveling again this month, so I missed the first week of Bee on a Wire and had to cram a lot of information into my brain in just a few days to get caught up. I also helped my sister with a few sewing projects and tailoring some thrifted items, and so I didn’t spend as much time sewing my own projects as I might have otherwise done.

Finished Projects

I did get a few projects made at the start of the month – my updated Mysa Bralette in the smaller size, as well as a new AFI Maya bra set. And I’m half done with my snowflakes set, so I’ll include the underwear I’ve made for that as well.

WIPs & Upcoming Plans

Right now I’m super focused on Bee on a Wire class and working on the pattern(s) I’ve selected for that. So I guess my WIPS are the Josey, the Freja, the Ruby, and the Elegance. I’m also finishing up reading Kibbe’s new book, which I plan to review. There are also some exercises in the book I want to work through (I know, you are supposed to do them as you read the book, but I wanted to be able to review it so I saved them for later). It’s fine… I’ll just have several posts about it coming up. I’m waiting to get through those exercises before I start working on more robust sewing plans, and I expect I might be bra sewing focused through the start of spring, but I do want to sew some clothes to wear over the bras this year. However, this month seems to be the month where I rethink everything and maybe start over, so I’m kind of embracing that energy right now and just enjoying the creative chaos that comes with looking at everything from a different perspective. And it’s been really helpful to have something to distract from the rest of the chaos that January has brought, because, well, this month as been a lot.
