Monthly Sewing Review – 2024 September Wrap Up

I’m sure that based on the fact I’ve written 0 blog posts this month, no one will be surprised that I’ve been quite busy with a lot of things that aren’t sewing. I’ve finally gotten back to sewing things in just the past two days, so not a lot to report in this post, but just a quick update on the things I have that are in progress and what I’ll hopefully be working on next month…

Sewing Progress

I need to get working on some projects for the end of October, so of course I took a total detour towards making a completely different pattern because everyone in The Hive decided to do a collective experiment on the AFI Atelier Maya pattern and see if we could fit it for different body types.

I over estimated the amount of sewing time I would have this month, so I’ve only managed to get the pattern worked out. I’ll do a more in-depth post about this pattern after I finish my bra, but I spent a lot of time printing and tracing and adjusting different pattern sizes to figure out a good starting point. Happily, I didn’t actually need to do a ton of adjustments on the pattern (well, for me anyway; relatively speaking I still did quite a bit, but I was able to do a lot of them before I even cut fabric for a test cup). It took all month to get there, but I think I have a decent pattern now.

And because I still have it top of mind, I’ll decided to use the cherry fabric from my last projects to make the Maya. Of course, since I was in a cutting out phase, I batch-cut another Josey and some Friday French Cuts to round out my cherry undergarment wardrobe. So, even though these pictures are from last month, it’s still an accurate depiction of the chaos in my sewing room:

Sewing Delays

I was traveling for a decently long portion of the month, and recovering from that for about a week after. I still haven’t really properly got everything back in place yet, but it’s getting closer. It’s also been a busy month at work, and I haven’t had a lot of energy to work on sewing projects after work most nights. I really need to get more sewing hours in next month though – I have a lot of sewing to get finished by the end of October!

Finished Projects

No finished sewing projects this month, but I did manage to clean off my cutting table so I can get started on drafting some large pattern pieces for next month’s projects!

WIPs & Upcoming Plans

So, right now my WIPs are the Maya Bra, a Josey Bra, and the Friday French Cuts, all using the red lace and cherry print fabric from my August projects. Everything is already cut out and I think I can get these done pretty quickly. Once I get these sewn up, I’ll be going back to the Vogue 1616 and the Marei Strapless Bra project. My materials have all finally arrived, and now that I’m not traveling as much I should have time to really focus on the more intense projects.

  1. Looking forward to seeing how you got along with the Maya pattern. I still haven’t hammered out the fit on that one; I think virtually every piece got changed and I still am not happy with the strap attachment point.

    1. The lower cup pieces I was able to omega adjust pretty easily. The neckline piece… was actually really perplexing because I had to take out sooooooo much. The test cup was promising but we will see how the real cup goes.
