Monthly Sewing Review – 2023 December Wrap Up

December is always a weird month for me. It’s one of the busiest times at work, so I’m always crazy busy with that until Christmas, at which point I have a week-long holiday with absolutely no reason to focus on work at all. However, with all that stress, I’ve also been spending a lot more time working on sewing projects than I would have expected, and there’s a lot of stuff I was actually putting more time into in November that just ended up being a finished project this month. There’s a lot that happened this month though, so let’s review!

Sewing Progress

I made a lot of finished projects this month! Not only have I had a lot of sewing output, I’ve been wearing a lot of these projects quite a bit, so it’s definitely been a month where I’ve been able to enjoy my newly sewn garments. I tried several new bra patterns this month including the Sahaara from Rubie’s Bras, the Mysa from LilyPADesigns, the Angie’s Twin, Jessica’s Twin, Olivia Bra-lette, and Margareta from B, Wear. I’m happy to say that I finished 7 undergarment sets, and I’ve really enjoyed having them in my wardrobe this month.

Sewing Delays

There were a few work weeks where my focus was definitely shifted away from sewing, and of course the holidays take up time as well. Overall though, I always tend to get a lot of sewing in because I don’t have as much travel this time of the year (a bit ironic, I know), so my delays were actually pretty minimal this month.

Finished Projects

All of my sewing progress resulted in finished projects, which included two Sahaaras bra(lettes), one Mysa bralette, several B, Wear bras, plus lots of underwear from my self-drafted patterns to match.

It’s been a month of surprising favorites – the Jessica’s Twin has been much more comfortable and supportive than I had anticipated, and the Sahaara has been my go-to on days when I want something comfortable and lightweight to wear at home. The underwear I made to go with the Margareta bra have been surprisingly comfortable, and I wear both my Sahaara and Mysa bralettes much more than I thought I would. While the Angie’s Twin is my favorite pattern from the month, it’s actually probably the project I will wear the least because of poor fabric choices, and the Olivia is probably going to be a favorite for me after I’ve had more of chance to wear it. I’m really happy with this collection of finished projects and I’m also super happy to have so many patterns to choose from moving forward.

WIPs & Upcoming Plans

The only pattern I had been testing that I didn’t have a chance to get to this month is the Aries Bra from Gravity by Grandy. I’ve already fit the pattern, I just need to find time to make it. I think I will probably try this pattern next before coming back to some of the B, Wear patterns or the Willowdale, though I do want to try some foam cup techniques soon now that I’ve got some TNT pattern options. I also got a few more LilyPADesigns patterns to try since I liked the fit of the Mysa Bralette so much. I still have several kits I want to make, and I’ve got all the materials from my BRAdvent box as well. Although I don’t think I’ll be doing a lot of sewing for the next few weeks, I do have a lot of ideas and materials to keep me sewing through the rest of 2024, and I think after another year of bra making I will truly have a wonderful self-made undergarment wardrobe!

      1. I will say that my weight also fluctuates but because undergarments do fit so closely there are some aspects that won’t change because they are more impacted by bone structure than anything else. Of course, there’s still a lot that can change, but I think if you already have a well fitting pattern it’s easier to adjust and grade if needed.

      2. Thank you. I think that having an updated fitting mannequin helps too, since it is based on your most recent shape–I can’t even find mine now in clutterland here so would have to start from scratch as opposed to making minor adjustments. My priorities need to get current, and now seems a good time for taking advantage of the new year resolution energy.
