It’s been an exciting month here on the blog, because I’ve actually been sewing! It’s also been an exciting month because I got to experience my first hurriquake, which was definitely a weird thing to live through. It’s a bit crazy to go from a weekend of storms to a weekend of 100+ temperatures, but all the more reason to stay in and sew as much as possible.
Sewing Progress
This month has definitely been part of #braugust – I have done a lot of fitting and experimentation, and I had some finished items! One more Ruby bra and 2 matching pair of underwear using my Craftsy course self-drafted pattern:

There were made just after I attended the online International Bra Sewing Bee so I made some fit alterations which were really great. After that I went on to work through the fit of the Bravo Bra #2 and the Cashmerette Willowdale patterns, which may end up fitting even better. Those patterns are ongoing projects, but I definitely feel like I already learned a lot about sizing and fit that I hadn’t been considering previously.

I’ve gone through my first fitting and made some substantial pattern alterations on both the Bravo Bra and the Willowdale, so I’m curious to see how fitting #2 goes (which is currently in progress). I also got my order of the Emerald Erin Bliss wires, which came just after I did my first fitting and then de-constructed my fitting bands for adjustments, so I need to test those as well. Hopefully more details on fitting phase 2 soon…

Sewing Delays
Honestly not too many this month, all things considered. Probably I did spend more time on sewing things than I should have… I am very behind in a lot of other projects, but oh well. It’s all trade-offs I guess. I’m sure it will balance out in the next few months when my focus shifts back to other non-sewing projects.
Finished Projects
I had three finished pieces this month: my third Ruby bra and matching Craftsy self-drafted underwear!

WIPs & Upcoming Plans
Right now I’m still very much on a bra sewing kick. I would like to make some functional versions of the Bravo Bra #2 and the Cashmerette Willowdale and wear them for a bit to see if there need to be further pattern modifications (and test out the different wire varieties that I have ordered) before I start digging into my stash of nice laces and fabrics and go all out on style modifications of those patterns. I’m also curious to try the Sahaara pattern by Rubie’s Bras, which is a very different style compared to the wired bra patterns I have used thus far. I feel like all of this will keep me occupied for a while, but hopefully after I have updated my undergarment options I can go back to focusing on my main wardrobe and pick up on some of my other unfinished projects. Work and other obligations will pick back soon, so I may not have as much time to work on sewing, but I feel like one of the nice things about bra sewing is I can do a lot of it in small chunks of time, so if I don’t have a full weekend day to just sit down and sew, I could probably make something in a week’s time if I do a little bit each night before bed. I haven’t been sewing every day, but I’ve been trying to make a little time during the week and it’s been good. I hope to continue that schedule through the fall.
