Sew Your Kibbe Challenge – February Round Up

It’s been another crazy busy month for me, but I’ve managed to get sick at the tail end of it, which has totally ruined my sew-jo. It’s really sad because I’d just finalized my plans for the Sew Your Kibbe Challenge when I came down with the plague. Whilst bedridden, I’ve been finding ways to get my hands on the fifth season of the Great British Sewing Bee, so I have been living a bit vicariously to get me through that the past two weeks of the sniffles. Technically though, I have started on my first Kibbe Challenge garment! It’s definitely not getting blogged this month, but I’m going to count is as part of that one garment per month goal. I’ve started my collection with the New Look 6330 cardigan, in a teal ponte. I’ve had to be generous with the sizing (New Look doesn’t seem to have included any extra ease on this pattern), but since it’s a mostly drapey waterfall sort of cardigan I think I’m just going to go for it and hope it turns out. With luck that should be appearing on the blog soon!

In the meantime, here’s what’s been going on around the sewing blogosphere…

If I’ve missed your posts or you would like to be included in my future Kibbe round up posts, please feel free to leave a link in the comments!

And, like last month, I thought it might be fun to do my top picks of new patterns for each Kibbe type from this month’s releases. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the only release this month is from BurdaStyle Magazine. I know Simplicity is coming out with their spring line soon, but those will have to wait for the March round-up! Not a lot to pick from, but here are my picks for February:

Dramatic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #126. I think it’s a great, elongating design for Dramatics.

Soft Dramatic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #110. I think scale of the ruffles and drapes could work well for Soft Dramatics.

Flamboyant Natural

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #112. Draping, oversized, and relaxed; this could be a fun end-of-winter top for a Flamboyant Natural.

Natural

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #102A. I think the pants could be a great addition to a Natural wardrobe. They have some cool details but still a relaxed, unconstructed vibe.

Soft Natural

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #115. This top has great drape, flow, and asymmetry. Perfect for a Soft Natural.

Dramatic Classic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #107. Symmetric, crisp, and cleanly tailored, this moto jacket is the perfect piece for a Dramatic Classic spring wardrobe.

Classic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #123. It’s probably a bit of a cheat, since this design is based off of Grace Kelly’s wedding gown, but how could I not pick this as the ultimate Classic pattern from the magazine this month?

Soft Classic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #120. The top is very symmetric and simple, with a hint of added yin in the sleeves. The styling in this photo is a bit much for a Soft Classic, but picturing this top with a circle skirt or even a simple pair of jeans actually could really work nicely.

Flamboyant Gamine

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #106B. The cut of this top is perfect for Flamboyant Gamines, and the use of the crazy fabric makes it even more so. It’s a simple pattern, but there are a lot of things a Flamboyant Gamine can do with “simple.”

Gamine

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #119. Styles reminiscent of the 1920s always fall in Gamine territory; this would be a great party dress for a Gamine!

Soft Gamine

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #105. The trousers have a great cut for a Soft Gamine.

Theatrical Romantic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #108. I still love this design! While I’ve chosen it for the Theatrical Romantic category, I think Soft Gamines should definitely consider making this style as well. It does a nice job of mixing yin elements with just a touch of yang.

Romantic

BurdaStyle 03/2019 #122B. Soft, flowing, delicate, and very yin.

And that’s it! If you’ve found any other great Kibbe related content to share or have any updates on your own Sew Your Kibbe challenges please feel free to drop a line in the comments!

  1. Really missed your posts…! Hope you get better quickly…!

Absolutely love the idea of you identifying the Kibbe of each Burda issue… Doesn’t change which patterns I like, but really helps understand the principle of it, and encourages me to give some patterns a second look and think about how I could make them my own.

Have traced out two patterns (and my March issue just arrived so now there are two more on my list), and hope to find the time to sew them! Work – and life – is complicated these days. lol… Looking forward to seeing your cardigan!

  2. Loving your round-up posts! I like exploring everything! My fave pattern pics are definitely your romantic and theatrical romantic! I love the chiffon sleeves on the moto jacket! If I made it I’d leave the extra flap off though.
