Thanks to awesome blog readers Isi and cameliadb, I got a tip that the Burda movie would be available on the German public TV site for streaming. And thanks to cleaver people on Instagram, I got a tip that if you turn on closed captioning (it is the “UT” button in German) in a browser that is set up to automatically translate German to English, it will turn Closed Captioning into Subtitles. Which means it’s movie time!
Here is the link to Part 1: https://www.ardmediathek.de/tv/Aenna-Burda/Aenne-Burda-Die-Wirtschaftswunderfrau-/Das-Erste/Video?bcastId=57902264&documentId=58318170
And now I’m off to get cozy and watch me some made for German TV awesomeness!
OOOOOOO (squealing with delight!) Thank you so much for posting this. I was able to get it to work using Chrome for the subtitle translations. Cheers!

Right, got it now: I installed Chrome on iPad, then copy/pasted the link into a Chrome page, which then asked if I wanted it to translate into English – you betcha! THANKS for rescuing a cold rainy day DrT

You have to have auto-translate turned on in the web browser for it to work.

I would love to watch this, but my subtitles are in German, not English. Any idea how to change that?

You have to have always Translate to English turned on in the web browser; it’s easy to do in Chrome, I’m not sure about Safari or Firefox.

Thanks you!! You have made my day after a bad day at work. Subtitles work in Chrome.

I just finished watching it. What an inspiring woman she was, I never knew anything about her. And all those clothes, so pretty!

OMG, I knew they were making a movie but then I got bogged down by life. This is probably the first time ever I regret getting rid of the TV… (I live in Austria and could have just watched this.) Thanks for bringing it to my attention from across the world!
