So I’ve made this top before, but when you leave off all of the details it is a really nice, simple, long sleeved top. 

So I thought it would be great to use as part of my didn’t-quite-make-it-in-time-for-the-contest-mini-wardrobe-in-a-wardrobe fall sewing plans.  Plus, I could use it as part of a future cosplay as well!  The inspiration for this top is clearly from the Librarian from The Magicians.

I’ve been wanting to do a cosplay of this costume for a while, but I figured I could incorporate these very wearable “costume” pieces into my real-life work wardrobe as well, since they have the right mix of casual and profession that I need at the moment.  Plus, now I can stealth cosplay in real life, which is pretty fun too.  Anyway, here is my version of the top:

Here is my official pattern review:

Pattern Description:  Knit top with contrast shoulder detail and keyhole back.  View A is a shorter length, and view B is a longer length with gathered side seams.  I made view A, the shorter top, but I made a change to the back, neck, and sleeve finishing.

Pattern Sizing:  Burda sizes 36-44.  I made a 40 grading out to a 42 at the hip.

Were the instructions easy to follow?  I’m sorry to say I didn’t even look at them.  I’ve made a lot of tops at this point, and I was leaving off all of the complex bits, so I really just followed my own order of construction.

Did it look like the photo/drawing when you were done with it?  Yes and no.  I did make changes to the collar, shoulder details, and sleeve hems, but the overall silhouette is very much the same.

What did you particularly like/dislike about this pattern?  I like the style and fit of this top, which is why this is my second time making this pattern.  This is a really easy pattern to make basic changes to, the length is perfect, and I really like the fit of the result.  No dislikes.

Fabric used:  I used a heather gray poly rib knit from Fabric.com.   

Pattern alterations or design changes you made:  I left off the shoulder contrast detail and the keyhole back.  I also added a thicker collar and cuffs to the sleeve hems.  No other changes were made.

Would you sew this again?  Would you recommend it to others?  Yes and yes!  This is a great basic top pattern, and it has a lot of great details as drafted, but it is super simple to alter and make changes to as well.  And the fit is fantastic.

Conclusion:  I love this pattern!  I am really happy I had used this pattern before, as I was able to put the top together is about 2 hours (with significant distractions).  I definitely want to make another version that includes the contrast details, as my original version of this top has worn out, and really needs replacing.  Love this pattern; it is definitely one of my go-to TNTs.
