The preview for the Burda Spring/Summer 2016 patterns is here!  I always tend to geek out over the envelope patterns, and this time Burda has given me quite a bit to drool over.  Also, have to throw out that the Burda Plus selection from this release is absolutely fantastic.  I think I’ve put nearly all of the new Plus patterns on my wish list.  On the whole this is a great release, and makes me very excited for getting started on spring/summer sewing.

First up, as per Burda’s tradition, the color-arranged preview:

Lots to love in this release, but I’m especially excited by many of the new dress options:

Love both of these!  6638 in particular is a knockout. We are also getting some great fitted knit options in this release – love the longer version of 6640.

There seem to be a lot of styles aimed at the Burda Young audience:

Love 6646, but 6643 looks a but frumpy and dated:

A lot of these designs feel very 60s-inspired:

Not as many jacket/suit patterns as usual, but I do like the styles they’ve released:

Love both 6661 and 6637!  The use of the trim on the blue jacket is really fun, and I love the seam lines on the yellow coat.  Both look like fun options for spring.

Not sure how I feel about the giant blue raincoat, but the red track jacket is awesome, and I want like at least 2 of them.  The style from 6667 isn’t anything new, but the drape has nice proportions.

The boleros from 6645 could be a nice addition to a fancy dress.

Wasn’t as excited by the tops in this release, but there are still a few cute options:

Really like 6630 – looks like a fun way to mix fabrics.  Oddly intrigued by 6631, even though I’m not sure I could pull off the naked back look…  Hmmm….

Tunic options – I love the pleating detail in 6632.  The long sleeved version looks so cozy!

I like the style lines of 6656, but I don’t think I would actually wear it.

Style #6654 – actually I rather like this basic tank top.  The contrast binding is a nice feature.

There weren’t a lot of skirts, but I seem to like almost all of them:

Love both these patterns – 6647 is so dramatic, and 6648 is simple, but very pretty.

6650 looks like something Ashley Nell Tipton would have designed on Project Runway; cute and flattering on many body types.  Love the gathering detail on 6634.

Ummmm….. yeah.  The shorter style on 6635 isn’t bad.

There seem to be a decent number of pants released this time around:

Liking 6636, but then I’m always won over by a flared leg trouser.

I feel like 6665 looks very stylish on the model, but maybe wouldn’t translate as well to real life.

The jeans patterns are super cute!  But 6668 is in petite sizes, and I don’t know how I feel about the apparent crotch fit on 6658, so I’ll probably pass on both of these.

Sweatpants are always useful, not as in love with the jumpsuit.

And now, for the pièce de résistance, the new patterns in the Burda Plus size range:

Super cute!  Love the color blocking, and the seaming makes 6673 very visually interesting.  6676 is a very classic style, but looks great in the graphic color block and the lace.

Nice to see a Burda Young in the plus sizes!  The dress is cute, but I especially love the top.  The top on 6675 isn’t very exciting, but the skirt of the dress is a nice subtle feature.

6680 is kind of boring, but the orange long-sleeved dress looks awesome on the model, so I’m giving this pattern a pass.  6672 is great because it is so versatile – you could make a workout top, a nice tank for layering, or a quick, simple sheath dress.  Definitely going on my list.

I NEED 6677 – a plus sized legging pattern?  Yes please!  Love the stripe variation down the side as well.  I wasn’t quite as excited by 6678 at first, but it is slowly winning me over.  I really love the way view A is styled.  I’ll probably end up adding that to my list too.

6679 gives some great options for color blocking, or for a classic pencil skirt.  6688 isn’t a plus sized pattern, but I thought the elephant tote was amusing, so I threw it in here at the end.

And that’s it!  On the whole I have to say that this is a really solid release.  Not a lot of detailed patterns, but definitely a lot of styles that would be fun to wear during the summer.  And I’m giving Burda a round of applause for the Plus sized patterns; there isn’t a ton of innovation in the styles, but they are all flattering clothes that I think a lot of people would want to wear.  And in sizes that don’t get as many options for things like leggings I’m calling this a win.  I’ve just added too many patterns to my wish list…  Now I have to (1) wait for the stores to stock these patterns are (2) cross my fingers and hope for a sale.  Anything you are particularly excited about with this release?  Or are do these patterns just look like more of the same from Burda?  Feel free to discuss in the comments!
